Rocket warning sirens sounded in communities near the Gaza Strip, sending thousands of residents to bomb shelters as they were celebrating the Shabbat evening meal. It was put forward by deputy Tal Ofer after hundreds of British Jews criticised the Board of Deputies' leadership for staying silent on Israeli government plans to declare sovereignty over large swathes of the West Bank, essentially ending hopes of a Palestinian state and a two-state solution. All three South Florida counties, along with the Florida Keys, now require masks in public places. "People weren't following it", the Governor said. (more...)

Thursday, Friday and Saturday all saw at least 40,000 new COVID-19 infections - the highest ever recorded since the pandemic began. Almost half a million people have died from the Covid-19 respiratory disease in the last seven months. Georgia, Nevada and SC also reported new daily records of infections that day while Arizona broke its previous record for hospitalisations. Some 1.3 million cases have been reported in Brazil.
