Aussie hiker with 'snapped' leg makes 2-day crawl to safety

The experienced hiker said the entire bottom half of his leg was hanging loose thanks to a "clean snap in half". He tried to make a phone call, but after dropping his mobile "into the drink" reverted to crawling. Parker - who founded a bushwalking club and has helped rescue other stranded hikers in the past - said knowledge had been instrumental to his survival, as he had set out well prepared with items such as bandages, a compass, and even a sleeping bag. Gulf News quoted Iranian judiciary spokesperson Gulam Hussain Esmaili stating that the court will decide if they were guilty or not. The National Hurricane Center said Humberto is poised to strengthen more today, and it could become a major hurricane in the next 24 hours as it nears Bermuda. A look at the wind speeds of each category of a hurricane. It is now 645 miles west of the island nation, which is under tropical storm watch. On Monday, Humberto continued to get better organised to the west of Bermuda and was pushing large swells that were affecting much of the southeastern United States coastline. (more...)

It is expected to strengthen over the next couple of days but stay well away from Florida. update.
