In November 2013, a 41-year old man who had previously been sentenced to nine years in prison for larceny, detonated a string of bombs outside Shanxi provincial Communist Party committee compound, killing one person and injuring eight. Firefighters are clearing the area for investigation. With tight controls over firearms, most personal attacks in China are carried out using knives, axes or homemade explosives. (more...)

MPs on the Brexit committee will today demand ministers rule out a no-deal that risks "serious delays" to foods, medicines and manufacturing goods. Reports claim that one of the reasons Ramaphosa was invited was due to Mahatma Gandhi's close association with South Africa. Gandhi had a strong connection to South Africa, where his experience under the Apartheid regime had a strong impact on his political thought. Temperatures in Chicago could drop to minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 29 Celsius) for the first time since the mid-1990s. Some of that cold air is going to break off and slide south into the central United States this week. Manafort's attorneys say he just didn't have a flawless recollection of all the facts. The allegations threaten his chances of getting leniency at sentencing. At issue is whether Manafort lied to investigators after he struck a plea deal for a lesser prison sentence. Mueller's lawyers last week told Jackson they think she could rule based off the court filings but were prepared to call witnesses if Manafort put up a fight. (more...)
