The poll-which quizzed 927 of the state's likely Democrats from January 13 to 18-shows Bernie Sanders has expanded a solid lead in early December by 10 points to an insane 27-point lead with a 4.8-point margin of error. Clinton says she's more to the left than Sanders on gun control; Sanders says he'd be tougher on Wall Street. The terrorist group Al-Shabab attacked an African Union (AU) base in the town of El-Ade in Somalia on Friday, according to media sources. Somali troops and Kenyan soldiers with the AU force, AMISOM, are deployed at the isolated base. Al Shabaab said the attack was in retaliation for the Kenyan "invasion of Muslim lands" and what it said was the army's "persecution of innocent Muslims" inside Kenya, a reference to the government's pursuit of suspected militants in the country. What's scary about this mosquito-borne virus is its apparent link to severe birth defects, especially microcephaly, a neurological condition that prevents the development of a full-sized brain. The CDC has listed the Zika virus as a second-category notifiable infectious disease, meaning that doctors should notify the CDC of suspected cases within 24 hours. (more...)

In Brazil, there's evidence linking the infection to a serious birth defect in which the head is smaller than normal. The Illinois Dept. of Health says two pregnant women in the state have tested positive for Zika virus. Zika is a viral disease transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito that causes fever, muscle and joint pain, headache, nausea and rash. The CDC warns that pregnant women face the risk of infection in any trimester. (more...)
