Israelis stand and inspect surrounding damages outside the cordoned area where a rocket fired by militants from the Gaza Strip fell and created a small crater in the southern Israeli town of Sderot on 9 August 2018. But the ceasefire will face its first test later in the day, as Palestinians in Gaza planned on resuming weekly border protests, which at times have become violent. (more...)

The fire began just after 1.40am yesterday and took the firefighters 12 hours to get under control. The event occurs when cool air enters the top of an area of hot air. Plumes of smoke could be seen up to 26 miles away in Nottingham while nearby residents were told to keep their windows closed after 60ft-high flames cause thick black smoke to billow into the sky. The incident in Fredericton comes a little over a week after two people were killed and 15 injured when a man went on a shooting spree in Toronto , Canada's biggest city. Tory peer Sayeeda Hussain Warsi, a former party chair and diplomat, accused Johnson of adopting the "dog-whistle" tactics of right-wing firebrand Steve Bannon, US President Donald Trump's former top aide. The MCB said Tories must now deliver the independent inquiry into Islamophobia in the party which it has been demanding. Labour's Jess Phillips tweeted that Mr Johnson was "just a racist" in response. (more...)

Israel's security cabinet discussed the proposal on Sunday, but afterwards ministers said only that the Israeli military was "prepared for any scenario". Israel has said they only opened fire in self-defence or on people trying to infiltrate its territory. Tensions between Israel and Gaza have escalated since weekly border protests started on March 30, which left more than 150 Palestinians dead and 17,500 others injured, according to statistics released by the Gaza Health Ministry.
