MLK Day protesters block 1 span of SF-Oakland Bay Bridge

Protestors will courageous the bitter cold Monday afternoon in an effort to bring attention to a pair of officer-involved shootings that killed Jamar Clark in November and Marcus Golden last January. At this time there are conflicting reports as to whether members of Black Lives Matter will join the demonstration. More than 1,000 demonstrators took to Bay Area streets on Monday, starting with a rally near city hall in Oakland, across the bridge from San Francisco. (more...)

It's probably early to suggest Hillary Clinton's campaign is flailing, but Sunday night's Democratic presidential debate helped shed some light on the pressure the frontrunner must be feeling. "I've never met a self-respecting hunter that needed an AR-15 to down a deer", O'Malley said. Later on during the Democratic debate, Sanders stated that "nothing real will happen", and says that people need to stand up and have a "political revolution". (more...)

The Michigan State University Extension , an organization that connects Michigan residents with applicable research from the state university, has partnered with the Hurley Children's Hospital to provide Flint families with nutritional information about the best lead-blocking foods and vitamins. The more polluted river water, treated at the Flint water treatment plant, turned out to be corrosive to the city's pipes and caused toxic levels of lead to seep into drinking water. President Barack Obama declared a state of emergency in MI over the weekend and ordered federal aid for state and local response efforts in the county where the city of Flint has been contending with lead-contaminated drinking water. Its symptoms often include fever, headaches and joint pain, as well as skin rashes and conjunctivitis. The warning follows the CDC's own analysis of samples from two stillborn children and two who died after birth who suffered microcephaly.
