The government on Friday said it had banned anti-IEBC protests by the opposition within Central Business Districts in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu. According to Sputnik, police have used pepper gas that did not allow demonstrators, including state of Mombasa, Senator Mohammad Faki and lawmakers. (more...)

They also registered a case under Sections 148, 149, 323, 341, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Mujessar police station against unknown 15-20 persons for thrashing the five youths. The top court's three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra and comprising of Justices A.M. Khanwilkar and D.Y. Mumbai: Touted as Indian Railways' gift to passengers ahead of Diwali, the journey between Mumbai and Delhi on the Rajdhani Express will be cut down by two hours from October 16. He said, the fares in the new service would be 20 per cent more than the base fares for existing Mumbai Rajdhani without any flexi fare. As many as 13 coaches will be of 3rd AC, two of 2nd AC and one coach of first AC besides one pantry and two power cars. (more...)

In continuation of violation of ceasefire understanding reached with Pakistan in 2003, Indian army resorted to unprovoked intense fire in Satwal and Nikial Sectors along the Line of Control (LoC). He, however, pointed out that the schools have been shut for a day. There was no immediate report of any losses or casualties. He said that the civilian facilities targeted by the Pakistani Army included Karmara area and in view of the same all educational institutions were closed. (more...)

Reuters reported citing souces that the French nationals were soldiers; no official confirmation from Paris has been issued so far. Police said that there were 10 people on board the Antonov aircraft. According to the preliminary reports it might be a cargo plane of a company that was carrying equipments for the French army, Koaci .com reports. Student Ange Koutaye Ismael, 19, said he saw bodies carried out of the plane, which had broken in two in the shallow waters. (more...)

For religious reasons the voluntary-aided school, which has about 770 pupils aged between four and 16, believes total separation of the sexes from age nine onwards is obligatory. But the judges said they did not accept the argument that "separate but equal treatment by reason of gender can not be unlawful discrimination". Talking about the judgment, Chief Executive of Equality and Human Rights Commission, Rebecca Hilsenrath said she welcomes the judgment. (more...)
