Swiss-Swedish group ABB purchases U.S. unit worth billions from General Electrics

ABB Ltd . agreed to buy the industrial solutions business of General Electric Co.in a deal valued at $2.6 billion that will strengthen the Swiss company's business in the USA, its largest market. The deal and integration will cost about $400 million, according to the buyer. The GE unit's operating earnings before interest, taxes and amortization (EBITA) are just 6 percent of sales, less than half the 15 percent operating margin at ABB's comparable Electrification Products division. Police did not name the suspect but said he was arrested under the Terrorism Act. He has been taken to a south London police station where he is being quizzed by detectives. Early Saturday, a Philippine Navy patrol vessel came across six Vietnamese fishing boats 34 nautical miles off Cape Bolinao, part of the northwestern Philippine province of Pangasinan, according to the Philippine government. A police report released Monday said it found gunshot wounds on the bodies of the two fishermen while their vessel sustained six bullet holes. No contraband was found on the boat, the report said. Press TV reported that the Khorramshahr rocket is Iran's third type of missile. Called the Khorramshahr missile, the weapon has a range of 1,250 miles and can carry multiple warheads, according to Press TV. "Iran is conducting a campaign of conquest across the Middle East and Iran is developing ballistic missiles to threaten the entire world". He is due to report to Congress on October 15 on whether or not he believes Iran is in compliance with the nuclear deal. (more...)

Mostly sunny skies this weekend will allow humidex values to approach forty both today and Sunday. Environment Canada said it issues heat warnings when temperature or humidity conditions elevate the risk of heat illnesses like heat stroke and heat exhaustion. (more...)
