In areas where peak surge coincided with high tide, water levels were predicted to rise as much as 4 to 6 feet above normally dry land from the northeast Florida coast to the central SC coast on the storm's Atlantic side, and from near Clearwater, Fla.to the state's Big Bend area on the Gulf of Mexico side. The Trump administration asked the Supreme Court on Monday to put on hold a federal appeals court ruling from last week that narrowed the scope of the travel ban as it applies to a certain class of refugees. Notably, the Justice Department is not asking the Supreme Court to halt that more broad definition of a "close familial relationship". Irma weakens to a tropical storm

Parts of SC are expected to start feeling tropical force winds and gusts on Monday. As Tropical Storm Irma's winds are expected to strengthen, more public safety agencies may limit emergency response. A wind advisory is in effect for the mid state, where winds of 15 to 30 miles per hour with gusts to 45 miles per hour will be common. High winds are still anticipated as Irma moves North. (more...)

The EU's enforcement wing, the European Commission, issued the massive penalty in June, accusing Google of boosting its own comparative shopping tool in its search results at the expense of other services. A spokesman for Google confirmed Monday they had filed the appeal but said the company had no further comment to make. Hurricane Irma isn't the only storm that's roaring in the Atlantic. Forecasters expect Katia to weaken quickly over the next 24 hours. Jose was upgraded to a Category 2 hurricane on Thursday afternoon. It is expected to stay on that course over the next couple of days and gradually strengthen.
