In anticipation of the hurricane, the Red Cross last week pre-positioned blood products in Houston and Dallas to ensure an adequate blood supply would be available for hospital patients. She says there will be plenty of opportunities for seasoned and new volunteers to do their part. She added that more donations are needed, as well as volunteers. (more...)

The rains have led to wide-scale flooding in a broad arc stretching across the Himalayan foothills in the three countries, causing landslides, damaging roads and electric towers and washing away tens of thousands of homes and vast swathes of farmland. A company spokeswoman said there was some water in the plant and local roads were flooded. While this disclosure does not necessarily mean that Exxon was the culprit or the lone culprit of the noxious odors that pervaded Manchester and other nearby neighborhoods during Harvey, it certainly helps explain why so many people reported catching whiffs of a metallic odor reminiscent of natural gas. The mother fought desperately to keep her child's head out of the water. Officers and two fire rescue divers later spotted the mother and daughter floating in the water while patrolling the area in a boat. The water was still high, so a Good Samaritan helped crews by allowing them to load the mother and daughter into his truck so they could make it to an ambulance. (more...)
