The Twitter attacks came as Vice President Mike Pence hired a personal lawyer to represent him in the intensifying investigation. He called it a "tragedy of a big dimension". He said Portuguese authorities were working on identifying the victims and that Spanish rescuers would assist in efforts to put out the fires. Televised images showed a huge wall of flames leaping over the top of trees in the wooded region. It is not yet known what caused the fire, which has also burnt down houses in the area. (more...)
