China has lashed out at Pentagon chief James Mattis over criticism that Beijing is militarising man-made islands in the South China Sea , calling them "irresponsible remarks". Responding to Mr Tillerson's comments, China's foreign ministry urged "relevant countries" to support efforts by regional nations "to maintain peace and stability of the South China Sea, and play a constructive role in this regard rather than the opposite". President Barack Obama said he would pull all remaining troops from the field in 2014, but then announced a policy reversal a year later that left the current troop numbers in the country to this point. And it's also a fair bet that they won't be the last American troops sent over. In addition to more troops in Afghanistan, the Pentagon's new strategy could include some changes to how US troops operate in the country. (more...)
