Most of the senators who signed are from states that depend on the continued burning of coal, oil and gas . But the vast campaign to persuade the U.S.to remain ultimately did not sway the president. The United States is set to join Syria and Nicaragua as the world's only non-participants in the Paris Climate Agreement. Under the deal, Mr Obama committed the USA to cutting its emissions by between 26% and 28% from 2005 levels by 2025. (more...)

Egypt's foreign minister told his USA counterpart, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Saturday that the militants who attacked a bus convoy of Coptic Christians a day earlier were trained at a camps inside Libya. The interior ministry said at least 26 people were killed and 25 wounded in the attack. A suicide bomber attacked a church in 2011, and there have been deadly clashes with Muslims, especially in the rural south, following disputes over church construction. (more...)
