Strangio wrote that Manning endured solitary confinement, denial of health care as a transgender woman and separation from her family while incarcerated. She remained housed at Fort Leavenworth, an all-male Army prison, despite her request to transfer to a civilian women's prison. A native of Crescent, Oklahoma, she was convicted in a military court martial of 20 counts, including six Espionage Act violations, theft and computer fraud. (more...)
