The fire was deadliest in the city in two years, said New York Mayor Bill de Blasio , according to Reuters . Nigro said a passing motorist saw someone tumble from a window as smoke billowed, and called the fire department. According to a Fire Department official, it's uncommon for this number of people to die in a fire in the middle of the day, as they would have been awake and capable of escaping. (more...)
