Syria's President Bashar al-Assad is denying allegations that chemical weapons were used. The Syrian government has been locked in a six-year civil war against an array of opposition forces. As a result, under a deal pushed by Russian Federation, the Syrian government surrendered stockpiles of chemical weapons to the United Nations.
