Turkey's Erdogan Declares Referendum Victory

The turnout at the referendum was 86%. Supporters carried Turkish national flags and banners that said "Yes" while chanting victory slogans at a speech by party leader and Prime Minister Binali Yildirm. The presidential and parliamentary polls will take place simultaneously, every five years. The CHP's protest was based on a decision by the High Electoral Board to accept ballots that had not been officially stamped. (more...)

President Donald Trump was uncharacteristically quiet about the failed launch of the missile. North Korea launched a missile today but it blew up nearly immediately after its launch, the USA military said. The press does not have Internet access on Air Force Two (which is secretly kind of liberating), so we didn't know, but of course the VP and his team have high-tech, secure communications capability. The manifesto promised a transparent and corruption-free rule. Autorickshaw and taxi stands with restrooms for drivers and issuance of licences to hawkers and street vendors under the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014 have also been promised. Under the proposed legislation, adults could possess up to 30 grams of dried cannabis and grow up to four plants per residence. Officials lamented that the current policy of banning marijuana hasn't deterred kids from drug use. In 2015, local polling company Insights West found that 65 percent of Canadians are in favour of recreational legalization. (more...)
