Alabama's rarely used impeachment process is more like that of South Korea than the United States: Bentley would be immediately suspended from office if the House votes for impeachment, followed by a Senate trial. The military did not release many details of its investigations of civilian casualties. "The total number of credible reports during this time period was 15", the US-led coalition said, without specifying how many civilians were killed in these incidents . (more...)

The president was speaking at a wreath laying ceremony commemorating the 24th anniversary of the murder of Chris Hani, who he said was a proponent of a non-racial society - a dream which South Africa had not yet realised, as evidenced by last week's marches.
