White supremacist James Jackson , who stabbed Timothy Caughman on Monday, had apparently taken the bus up to NY from Baltimore because "he wanted to make a statement ", according to Assistant Chief William Aubry . James Jackson killed Timothy Caughman in a likely "act of terrorism" against black men, officials said. The New York Police Department tracked 56 hate crimes from the beginning of 2017 to February 12, a 45 percent increase over the same period in 2016. (more...)

Newsweek reported that Comey had a draft or outline of a potential op-ed he likely would have sent to the New York Times during a meeting with then Secretary of State John Kerry, Attorney General Loretta Lynch and others. The Trump administration is now under FBI investigation for possible collusion between Russian operatives and presidential aides. The public hearing was the first of several that the intelligence committees are expected to hold on Russia's interference in the election. (more...)

Other than Schumer and Casey, no Senate Democrats have officially announced how they intend to vote on the nomination; most have said that they will wait until after the hearings end to decide. The Texas Department of Public Safety confirms Cassville storm chasers Kelley Williamson and Randy Yarnell have died in a two-vehicle accident. Three storm chasers were killed on Tuesday in a vehicle wreck in northwest Texas as an intense tornado-packed storm front rolled through the state, local media reported. (more...)

Asa Hutchinson says he's been satisfied that courts have established the guilt of two death row inmates who want their lives spared from scheduled executions next month, but says he'll review the Parole Board's recommendation against clemency for the two. On Thursday, police identified the attacker as Khalid Masood, a 52-year-old British citizen who had a criminal record and went by other aliases. ISIS has claimed Masood was one of their soldiers, but so far there is no evidence of that, and police say they believe he acted alone. (more...)

He pointed to a March 24 letter from Yates' attorney, in which the attorney says that if the White House does not respond by a deadline, Yates will consider that to mean that the White House is not trying to invoke executive privilege, which would limit what she could disclose. "If I have a warning, I get ready to go to the basement just in case", Rogers said.
