North Miami City Manager Larry Spring Jr added that Aledda was a four-year police department veteran. City officials also announced that another officer, Commander Emile Hollant , was placed on administrative leave without pay. Police were unaware that the autistic man did not have a gun, and was in fact holding a toy truck. An investigation of the shooting conducted by the local state's attorney office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is still ongoing, according to NPR . (more...)
