Traders had anticipated the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) would successfully implement a production cut at its November 30 meeting in order to prop up prices. "The odds of OPEC getting a deal done continue to rise but the risks remain palpable", analysts at Citigroup wrote in a note to clients. The ringgit fell as much as 0.5 percent to the lowest in more than 13 months after Bank Negara Malaysia warned foreign banks this month against using offshore forwards to bet against the currency. "Global financial market conditions are likely to be susceptible to policy and market developments", said BNM. The latest decision suggests that BNM is "more anxious about supporting the weak currency than boosting the sluggish economy", said Capital Economics analyst Krystal Tan. (more...)

In successfully arguing for a stay of any release, Schimel said Dassey should remain imprisoned because the state was likely to win on appeal. "These repeated false promises, when considered in conjunction with all relevant factors, most especially Dassey's age, intellectual deficits, and the absence of a supportive adult, rendered Dassey's confession involuntary under the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments". Tensing, 26, contended he felt that Dubose's vehicle was dragging him and that he fired at him because he feared he would be run over.
