Woodland had been one ahead of the field overnight and appeared to be in cruise control as he birdied seven of the first 13 holes to increase his advantage to three with four to play. Mexican amateur Maria Fassi had a 65 to get to six under. The 2015 Australian Amateur Champion dropped a shot at the last when his tee shot finished in primary rough but still signed for a second round 70 to be 6-under after 36 holes in a tie for 24overnight. Armstrong's jog back onto the field, which signified no serious injury, was greeted with cheers and chants by the Ohio State fans.
