Self-healing liquid created to bind fabrics together once torn
- August 14, 2016
The fabric-coating technology works using enzymes that are added to break down certain chemicals. This fabric-coating technology was created by turning the squid's ring teeth into a liquid form using yeast and bacteria. This means an item of clothing with the coating could be repaired by simply putting it in a washing machine. Ultimately, the professor says, this new squid-baed protein "could help improve protective clothing worn by soldiers, medical staff, even farmers". (more...)

Historically, this mountain was a place of sacrifices to Zeus. In punishment, the legend goes, Lycaon was either slain or turned into a wolf. Accordingly, everything must be taken with a grain of salt - it's possible that any case these scientists make for tying the remains to a human sacrifice, if they try to make one at all, will be debunked by their colleagues. How to catch the Perseid meteor shower
- August 13, 2016
Every August, Earth's orbit takes us into the debris field (composed mainly of nickel and iron) of ancient comet "Swift-Tuttle". The reason they are called the Perseids is because they seem to radiate from the constellation Perseus. If the weather cooperates, the best time to watch is between the hours of midnight and dawn overnight on Thursday to Friday (Aug. 11-12). Allow about 45 minutes for your eyes to adjust to the dark.
