The calving was spotted by the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, according to The Washington Post , which shared a satellite image (below) of the newly formed ice berg. "We predicted that the rifting would result in more frequent calving, which is what's happening here", said Howat by email. He noted something similar happened after the 2015 break, a sort of "aftershock" event following a massive calving. (more...)

A text from her sister on Tuesday says she has also gotten sick and is anxious about the painful welts growing on her face. One of the main concerns is simply the lack of power. I live here in the states. While Trump offered nothing specific, the tweets followed calls for the administration to step up involvement in recovery efforts in Puerto Rico. (more...)

The German-owned grocer said that its sales had jumped by 13.5 per cent to a record £8.7 billion in the year to December 31, in stark contrast to an overall grocery sector that recorded growth of only 0.5 per cent during the same period. We now recognize that tying our donation to sales of the DLC was not the best way to achieve our goal of offering financial support to the family and creating a lasting memorial to Michael Forgey. Aside from making wonder what they'll announce next year - given they've told us what they'll put out in 2018 with 2019 branding - it smacks to me of making sure they had a "big" announcement to make this year. The standalone Google Shopping unit will have to bid with other shopping sites for ad placement on top of Google's product search results page, Bloomberg News reported September 26 citing unnamed sources. The search results has previously reserved the space for Google Shopping. The deadline for meeting that requirement expires Thursday Sept. 28. In an attempt to change that statistic, the MBTA, Keolis Commuter Services and Transit Police have teamed up with Operation Lifesaver to launch Rail Safety Week. (more...)

After amalgamation with its five associate banks and Bharatiya Mahila Bank, SBI had revised the charges on account holders' minimum balance (non-maintenance), ATM use and cash-handling, among others, with effect from April 1. The bank has 42 crore savings bank accounts out of which 13 crore accounts fall under PMJDY/ BSBD, which were exempt. The lender also revised downwards the penalty for non-maintenance of MAB. Those rules indicate the company can suspend an account that is deemed to have engaged in violent threats; attacks on people based on race, religion, gender and more; or "targeted abuse or harassment of others".
