Whitson responded, "It's actually a huge honor to break a record like this". Ms Whitson, 57, beat the previous United States record of 534 days, two hours and 48 minutes spent in space. "That's about as fast as I've ever heard, I wouldn't want to fly 17,000 miles an hour but that's what you have to do". By the end of her current stint in space she will have spent 666 days in orbit between three space flights. (more...)

In Europe thousands marched in London, Berlin and other cities in "March for Science" events accompanied by slogans such as " facts not feelings" and "join the resistance". Demonstrators in the US had hand-painted placards and signs lambasting Trump's decisions such as possibility of withdrawing from the Paris Climate Treaty, his promise to to cut $900 million from the Department of Energy's Office of Science or his executive orders deregulating coal waste dumping. The translation won't work for every language pair out there, but if you've ever use Google Translate, you have a good idea of which languages it can handle - and, well, it's a lot of languages. The company is also bringing neural machine translation to Chrome web browser's auto-translate functionality. Additionally, the company's mobile keyboard app Gboard now supports almost two dozen Indian languages, it said. (more...)
