United States safety regulators have added an additional 35 million to 40 million Takata air bag inflators to the 28.8 million in need of replacement. Shares of Tesla stock surged as much as seven percent in after-hours trading following the announcement. Tesla delivered 50,000 cars last year, it plans to deliver between 80,000 and 90,000 cars this year, it has already missed Q1 delivery estimates of 16,000 vehicles, and 500,000 cars by 2020 doesn't sound realistic because the firm is notorious for delays. Now, Netflix is opening up user-selectable settings that allows you to sip data (at the expense of video quality) or gulp it down to the max if you're one of the few with an unlimited data connection. The speed will apparently balance out good video quality with a decreased data consumption while preventing users from exceeding the mobile data caps or overage fees being incurred. (more...)

The rules promise to have a major impact on the $3.4 billion e-cigarette industry that has flourished in the absence of federal regulation, making the nicotine-delivery devices the most commonly used tobacco products for USA youngsters. The rule also requires manufacturers to get the FDA's marketing approval for any products that were issued after February 15, 2007, to show that their "products meet the applicable public health standard set forth in the law". Yahoo is said to be leaning toward a cash deal , which could work in Verizon's favor, some analysts say. By 2100, hotter days could feature midday highs of 122 degrees Fahrenheit. Again, the researchers expected due to climate change further increases, which additionally complicates the living conditions in the region. In addition to more extremely hot days, models suggest the region can expect an increase in pollution problems, as the particulate matter becomes more concentrated in the atmosphere. (more...)

That brings the total of recalled vehicles in the USA alone to as many as 68.8 million - more than a quarter of all cars in the country. Bill Nelson, D-Fla. NHTSA said the most unsafe airbags have already been recalled , and in a statement, Takata Chairman and CEO Shigehisa Takada concurred. NHTSA has appointed an independent monitor to assess, track and report the company's compliance with the recall program. (more...)

EMERGENCY crews have pulled the wrecked fuselage of an Airbus EC-225 helicopter out of the sea off western Norway after a crash that killed all 13 people on board. Norway's TV2 channel aired footage of what seemed to be a helicopter rotor blade spiralling down minutes before the helicopter crashed . The Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority said the helicopter's flight recorders were sent Saturday to Britain, where data from the black boxes would be read. (more...)

India's market is predominantly saturated by local vendors. Yoky Matsuoka earned a MacArthur "genius" award while at UW for her work using robotics to help people with disabilities. Ms. Matsuoka has had an interesting career. The famed Matsuoka who developed the BarrettHand, a revolutionary robotic arm will be joining Apple's Health Projects Team. She has taught robotics at the University of Washington and Carnegie Mellon, a job she left to join Google in 2009. (more...)

Writing in a blog post, Opera's SVP of global engineering for computer browsers, Krystian Kolandra, noted that the company was aware it needs to "provide a better solution for the future" when it comes to the whitelist. Opera says that the ad blocking tech will allow users to browse the web faster and more smoothly.
