Apple Won't Report First Weekend iPhone 7 Sales

The iPhone 6S starts at $549 (down from $649) and the iPhone 6S Plus starts at $649 (down from $749). The company has added two new colors to the iPhone line-up: a high-gloss jet black and a matte black. "It makes no sense to tether ourselves to our mobile devices", said Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing. The first U.S. asteroid sampling mission took flight on Thursday evening, beginning a seven-year journey that could provide more insight into the early solar system and even the origin of life on Earth. Professor Dante Lauretta, the mission's principle investigator, said similar material on Earth has long since been erased. It will arrive there in 2018, map the asteroid and then come close enough to lower a pogo-stick-like probe to the surface to collect samples to return to Earth. (more...)

Following reports of some Galaxy Note 7 batteries exploding while charging and Samsung delaying shipments of its new phone for additional quality testing, Samsung may soon issue a recall for its latest flagship. That is, Samsung SDI produces the battery cell, but the battery pack production is outsourced to other firms. The defective batteries used in the phones sold in Korea and some markets were produced by a local battery maker ITM Semiconductor. (more...)

Samsung last week began a global recall for the phone, just two weeks after its launch, because of the risk of them catching fire or exploding. In a warning issued today , the US Consumer Product Safety Commission warned owners of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices to "power them down and stop charging or using" the devices. (more...)

To allow customers to use this feature , Apple will include wired headphones created to fit the Lightning port and a 3.5mm headphones to Lightning adaptor in the box. They actually aren't the first smartphone maker to make this decision: Chinese manufacturer LeEco and the Moto Z line from Lenovo (formerly Motorola) have already eliminated the headphone jack.
