In 2014 alone, the massive heap of old cell phones and other electronics was estimated to contain 315 pounds of gold, 3,450 pounds of silver and 2,450 pounds of copper. Overall, the gold in Japan's electronics is equivalent to 16% of the world's total reserves. In 2013, Japan's almost 128 million strong population unloaded 17.3 kilograms of electronic waste per person, and about 556,000 tons of e-waste were collected and treated in Japan. (more...)

When the seasons change, thousands of reindeer migrate across the plateau. Nylend tried not to speculate but also said that the animals could have been close together: "they may have gathered even closer together out of fear". Hardangervidda, a mountain plateau in southern Norway that is popular among tourists and hikers, is known for its natural beauty.
