Global Ice Sheets Melting at 'Worst-Case' Rates
- January 27, 2021
Another way to think of it is as 28 giant ice cubes -one for every trillion metric tons of ice lost-each taller than Mount Everest and measuring 10 kilometers in width, height and depth, the scientists said . Similarly, sea ice doesn't contribute to sea-level rise as it melts away. As sea ice vanishes, it exposes dark water that absorbs solar radiation rather than reflecting it back out of the atmosphere. SpaceX, Amazon Spar Over Room For Satellite Orbits, Reports Say
- January 27, 2021
SpaceX plans to launch all Starlink satellites with laser crosslinks starting next year, but the recent 10 satellites that launched aboard the company's Transporter-1 rideshare on January 24 are SpaceX's first operational ones. Amazon has argued that allowing SpaceX to do so would "hamstring" competition among satellite systems. It is clearly in their interest to stifle the competition if they can, but certainly not in that of the public, "he continued". (more...)
