Jupiter's moon Europa glows in the dark, scientists say
- November 12, 2020
Most of the observations using a spectrometer on a moon-like Europa are taken using sunlight that is reflected on the moon's dayside, however, the latest results illuminate what Europa would look like in the dark. The study , thus, offers the peculiar possibility of a moon that continuously glows even on the side that faces away from the sun-its dark side or nightside. (more...)

Carl Weathers Reveals Which The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode He Directed
- November 09, 2020
Unlike the first season's second episode, there's no Jawa comic relief, Nick Nolte isn't around to repeat a amusing catchphrase, and the Mandalorian doesn't do much meaningful bonding with Baby Yoda. It felt like this episode had homages to the Alien movies as the spiders looked like facehuggers. He also uses his flamethrower to great effect as well. (more...)

Eta expected to be hurricane and strike Florida Keys
- November 09, 2020
The National Hurricane Center has issued a hurricane warning, and a storm surge for much of the Florida Keys. Thereafter, uncertainty is too high to make a credible projection on where or whether Eta might make a second landfall across portions of northern Florida or dissipate entirely. (more...)

Dwarf planet Ceres has possible underground ocean and volcanic activity
- November 08, 2020
This implies that brine may well continue to be growing to the surface of the crater and that salty liquid could however exist inside of of Ceres . The bright conical hills and knobs are similar to small ice hills in Earth's polar regions that are formed by frozen pressurized groundwater. Earlier observations on the crater had suggested there may be salty water underneath, but De Sanctis said the team's discovery of hydrated sodium chloride provides much firmer evidence, as these kinds of ... Burial shows ancient women were hunters, too
- November 06, 2020
Examination of old hunter-gatherer burial data showed that the Wilamaya Patjxa female was not an anomaly - and that between 30 and 50 percent of hunters in Late Pleistocene and early Holocene societies were female. It was the female hunter that got the researchers wondering. The new take came out of a 2018 archaeological dig at Wilamaya Patjxa , high in the Andes Mountains in today's Peru. (more...)

NASA Spacecraft Efficiently Secures Bennu Asteroid Pattern
- November 05, 2020
The collected samples were trapped in a device dubbed the collection head. The OSIRIS-REx grabbed the samples on October 20th, four years later, after its launch from the Earth. But mission leaders said they did not know how much material was inside until the sample capsule returned to Earth. Short touchdown data on the asteroid showed that the spacecraft's robotic arm sank up to 19 inches (48 cm) on Bennu's smooth surface. (more...)

NASA Asteroid Sample Stowed for its Journey Back to Earth
- November 03, 2020
One of the surprising discoveries during OSIRIS-REX's visit is that particles erupt off the surface of Bennu into space. "Now we can look forward to receiving the sample here on Earth and opening up that capsule". How much of the sample has been lost can not yet be precisely measured, said Lauretta. While the collection process was deemed a success, the leak threatened the loss of some, or possibly most, of the material. (more...)
