Although forecasters downgraded the severity of the alert for the Big Island and Maui to a tropical storm warning and a hurricane watch, Brenchley noted that with Douglas moving west-northwest, 340 miles east of Hilo, the Big Island will begin to feel the storm tonight, Maui County by early Sunday and O'ahu could begin to feel the impact of the storm by tomorrow midday. The soil the microbes were being trapped in was taken from a 2010 expedition to the South Pacific Gyre , a seemingly lifeless zone in the centre of swirling ocean currents to the east of Australia, recognised as a single of the most foods-constrained and everyday living-deficient elements of the ocean (and a trash vortex, with all the plastic pollution it gathers at the surface area). In 2011, China attempted a mission but relied on a Russian rocket. About 5-10 percent of the Delta Aquariid meteors leave glowing trails of ionized gas trails that persist for a couple seconds in the meteor's wake. The best time to view them is after midnight, as is true with most meteor showers. The meteors of the Delta Aquarids are known for dragging long, glowering trails because of the angle at which they entire Earth's Atmosphere. Specifically, the Delta Aquarids are named after the third brightest star in the constellation, Delta. (more...)

Though still well below the boundary of space (about 62 miles, or 100 kilometers, above Earth's surface), it will be high enough to observe light wavelengths blocked by Earth's atmosphere. The ASTHROS telescope, which measures about 8.4 feet long, will be carried by a massive balloon that's as big as a football stadium. The telescope will observe four targets, including star-forming Carina Nebula (above) in the Milky Way. (more...)
