How To See Five Planets in the Night Sky This Weekend
- July 18, 2020
All you will need to do is wake up at the break of dawn; you will not even require any additional equipment. "During the next few mornings five planets are visible, but without the moon ", Hunt wrote on When the Curves Line Up. What is more interesting is the fact that you would not need any equipment to view this. How do you recognize which planet is which? The pair of gas giants have been a highlight of the night sky this month because Earth is now between them and the sun. (more...)

UAE postpones Mars mission again due to weather at Japan launch site
- July 18, 2020
On July 15, weather conditions forced a second delay to the UAE Space Agency and the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center's mission to the red planet. The probe will launch on a Mitsubishi H-IIA booster . While the eventual success of the mission is yet unknown, Hope demonstrates the UAE's commitment to building domestic technological capabilities and is a clear indication that the government possesses both the resources and the resolve to carry out a bold economic transition. 'Human-caused climate change has fuelled Siberian heatwaves'
- July 17, 2020
Record-breaking warm period in Siberia was more than 2C hotter than it would have been if humans had not warmed the planet through decades of greenhouse gas emissions, scientists say. It is also melting permafrost - permanently frozen ground - which caused the collapse of a fuel tank and huge oil spill in May. A record-breaking heatwave that has gripped much of Siberia this year would have been "almost impossible" without the influence of man-made climate change, leading experts said on ... (more...)

That's because the Comet C/2020 F3 - otherwise known as NEOWISE - has been blazing a trail across the edges of our solar system , and will continue to do until mid August. "And if for no other reason, just go to see it with your naked eye because it is such a cool phenomenon". We have all seen how comets ATLAS and SWAN quickly made their appearance and then disappeared, but with NEOWISE is an entirely another story. (more...)

Astronomers uncover substantial galactic wall hidden powering Milky Way
- July 17, 2020
The Hercules-Corona Borealis Great Wall, which stretches across 10 billion light-years, which is equal to about one-tenth of the diameter of the entire visible universe, is now the largest structure ever. The database contains more than 18,000 known galaxies and the astronomers used it to compare the movements of galaxies in relation to one another. They believe that further studies and mapping projects of the entire universe would provide more accurate information regarding the actual size of ... (more...)

How to see Comet NEOWISE
- July 17, 2020
If you don't catch the comet before it inevitably fades away in August or sooner, you'll have to wait awhile for its next trip through the inner solar system , now estimated to happen in the year 8786. NEOWISE is visible only to observers in the Northern Hemisphere and should remain bright enough to spot through the middle of August. While it's visible just above the horizon right now, over the next week it'll rise higher and higher in the sky as it inches closer to Earth, until it ... (more...)

But the Extreme Ultraviolet Imager, or EUI, on Solar Orbiter returned data hinting at solar features never observed in such detail . Daniel Mueller, an ESA project scientist working on the probe, said it was too early for scientific conclusions, as these early images were "merely byproducts of technical tests" as the probe is configured for its fully operational scientific phase. `Fireworks`: Astronauts capture glimpse of Neowise comet from space!
- July 16, 2020
The space agency describes comets as "cosmic snowballs of frozen gases, rock and dust that orbit the Sun". Comet C/2020 F3 ( NEOWISE ) can be found in the early morning sky just before sunrise. Comets are notoriously fickle things that could always break up and burn out at any moment, so fingers crossed. While there's no strict definition of what a great comet is, it's generally speaking agreed that people haven't seen one since Hale-Bopp in 1997. (more...)

- July 16, 2020
Of this share, ranching, agriculture and landfills account for about two-thirds, while the fossil fuel industry, composed of oil, gas and coal, makes up the rest. Neowise was named after an imaging project from the California Institute of Technology (CalTech) that uses an infrared satelite called WISE to detect heat signatures from objects that orbit the sun. The close pass by the sun caused the comet's outer layers to sizzle, erupting gas and dust from the icy surface and forming a large debris tail, NASA said. (more...)
