Beginning this week, the United States, China and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are all sending unmanned spacecraft on 483-million-kilometre journeys to the Red Planet . The US is sending a six-wheeled rover, called Perseverance, which is the size of a auto, to collect rock sample that will return to Earth for analysis in about a decade. (more...)

It has been reported that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will make history by becoming the first Arab nation to send an interplanetary mission to Mars on Wednesday. The craft was inside the nose cone or payload fairing that was installed to protect it during its first minutes of flight. Supermoons occur when the moon is within 90 percent of perigee-which is its closest approach to Earth in orbit. The main threat posed by tropical storm Fay is its heavy rainfall, which, according to the NHC, is two to four inches in and around DE and northward to New Jersey, then eastern Pennsylvania, to southeast NY, and then southern New England. NASA notes that the comet's closest approach to earth will be on July 22, at a distance of about 64 million miles. Then the vaporized gas and dust spread out behind the nucleus, which creates its visible tail. Astronomer John Bortle said the comet's increase in brightness could mean the sun's heat has reached volatile pockets near the nucleus. A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area within 36 hours. Tropical Storm Fay has made its appearance off the U.S. The National Weather Service office in Mount Holly issued an advisory stating the storm would pack winds between 39 and 57 m.p.h. with occasional strong gusts, though sustained winds will likely see a maximum speed of 50 m.p.h. As the center of the system moves inland, the storm is forecast to weaken. During the uncrewed test, the Starliner team ran into intermittent space-to-ground communication issues and two software coding errors that resulted in the capsule failing to make it to its intended orbit. According to NASA, the review identified a total of 80 recommendations that Boeing is addressing in collaboration with the agency. Boeing plans to repeat the test flight once again later this year. Major flooding was also reported to police on Lakeshore Drive near Ontario Drive. Scattered thunderstorms are expected any time after 2 p.m. Wednesday and throughout the evening. Police say flooding and downed hydro wires have been reported in the western parts of Toronto. Emergency crews said they are trying to restore power as quickly as possible, provided the conditions are safe for them to work. (more...)

National Hurricane Center in Miami said. Edouard had become the earliest fifth-named tropical storm on record, according to Colorado State University hurricane researcher Phil Klotzbach. Forecasters are also monitoring a third tropical wave about 650 miles east of the Windward Islands. There it will find more favorable conditions for development, and the hurricane center said there's a 40 percent chance of it becoming a tropical depression over the next five days. (more...)
