Nicknamed the "Cosmic Reef" that resembles an underwater world, the newest Hubble picture shows the massive red nebula NGC 2014 towering above its smaller blue associate NGC 2020. Within the colorful region is a bright group of young stars, each 10 times the mass of our Sun or more. Penumbral shadows are a function of the structure of the shadow of the Earth cast back onto the Moon. If the Sun were a pinpoint light source infinitely far away, this shadow would have basically sharp distinct edges; instead, the outer penumbra is a region where only a portion of the Sun is obscured as seen from the Moon.
