The last mission that took place in 2010, lasted for two years. The one just launched features an extra compartment for experiments, including several for NASA. The tri-state area could hit 80 degrees on Friday , but the chance of thunderstorms will develop through the afternoon into late-day hours, according to the National Weather Service . A storm system will bring scattered severe thunderstorms with torrential downpours, hail and damaging wind gusts that could cause power outages. The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for 29 Upstate counties including most of Central New York. (more...)

"For a large object like this, dense pieces like parts of the rocket engines could survive re-entry and crash to Earth", McDowell told CNN .
