Israel set to land spacecraft on the moon in first
- April 18, 2019
Israel can count itself among seven nations that have successfully orbited the moon. Descent operations to the lunar surface started at 9 pm Italian time and everything proceeded as scheduled for about 20 minutes. Beresheet carried a small laser retroreflector from NASA meant to measure magnetic fields and provide insight on the moon's iron core. Funded nearly entirely by donations, Beresheet was built by SpaceIL, an Israeli non-profit set up for the mission, in partnership with the ... (more...)

Carnes: Copious supply of black holes
- April 17, 2019
SMU physicist Joel Meyers said up until now there'd been a lot of indirect proof that backed up the idea that black holes existed - like how the stars near the region interact with the gravitational pull and the gas emissions that come from the material that falls into them. (more...)

SpaceX's recovered core booster damaged in rough seas
- April 17, 2019
That meant SpaceX had to go and retrieve the booster, but sadly, rough conditions on the seas resulted in the booster accidentally falling into the ocean, as reported by The Verge . This is the first time the company has lost a landed stage on the way back to port. SpaceX has efficient robots created to recover its Falcon 9 boosters - the " octagrabber " - but the core booster had a different configuration that doesn't latch on to the base of any booster except the Falcon 9's (for now).
