Only one pregnancy resulted from the project, though He altered embryos for seven couples in total during fertility treatments. If He's claims are accurate, Annas wrote, then the academic violated "a growing medical-scientific consensus that gene editing not be used on human embryos to create a baby until much more is known about its safety (especially "off target" effects), how to obtain informed consent, and how to monitor any resulting children (and their children) for at least 3 ... T Builds Revolutionary New Plane With No Moving Parts
- November 22, 2018
A team of experts from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology managed to unlock a process known as electroaerodynamics, previously never seen as a plausible way to power an aircraft. The aircraft, called Version 2 EAD Airframe, or V2, weighs only 2.45 kg with a wingspan of 5 metres. "This was the simplest possible plane we could design that could prove the concept that an ion plane could fly", Barrett said. (more...)

Icy 'Tremendous-Earth' Exoplanet Noticed Round Close by Barnard's Star
- November 18, 2018
Professor Steven Vogt of UC Santa Cruz said, 'Barnard's star is among the nearby red dwarfs that represents an ideal target to search for exoplanets that could someday actually be reached by future interstellar spacecraft. The newfound planet candidate lies 0.4 AU from its host star and completes one orbit every 233 Earth days, according to the new study. Vogt's exoplanet search team began observing Barnard's star in 1997 using Keck Observatory's HIRES instrument, which Vogt designed. (more...)
