The mission team over the next week will use a camera on the spacecraft to take pictures of the collection head on the robotic arm to try and determine how much of a sample was collected. The NASA team hopes that its mission will collect a sample with "significantly more mass" because its sampling method is a little different from Hayabusa2's approach, according to NASA. (more...)

FWC said the illegally-captured flying squirrels were sold to a wildlife dealer in Bushnell, FL., who "laundered" them through a licensed business claiming the animals were captive-bred, not wildlife. However, two subspecies of northern flying squirrel are federally listed as endangered, and the animals are protected in Florida. From there, another courier would drive them to Chicago. (more...)

NASA is collaborating with Nokia as part of its Tipping Point program. There are more than 800 Starlink satellites in orbit now. Launched on board the reusable, two-stage Falcon 9 rocket, the lift-off took place from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This extends SpaceX's lead in operating the largest fleet of satellites in Space Rabbit. In a Twitter thread , Nokia's research arm, Bell Labs, said that the company intends for the network to support wireless operation of lunar rovers and navigation, as well as streaming video. That's one small step for RAN, one giant leap for RANkind, as the USA puts the pieces in places to establish a permanent presence on the moon . For one thing, the asteroid is tiny as these things go, not quite 7 feet long, and NASA figures it has just a 0.41% chance of entering Earth's atmosphere on election eve. Paul Chodas, a director at CNEOS , said: " It's really cool to see a small asteroid come by this close, because we can see the Earth's gravity dramatically bend its trajectory ". (more...)

The Osiris-Rex mission is looking to bring back at least 60 grams worth of asteroid Bennu , the biggest such haul from beyond the moon. There are large boulders like buildings on the target Downtown zone. "It's about understanding our origins", said Dante Loretta of the University of Arizona.
