Authorities said the vast majority had felony convictions, though some had no criminal records. "I'm just doing what I said I would". Excluding motor vehicles and parts total retail sales grew by 0.8% on the month in January. In comparison to a year ago, retail sales were higher by 5.6%. Retail sales registered a 0.4% gain, well above the 0.1% jump for the month expected by economists. The Federal Reserve is likely to scrutinize the report as it assesses the economy's strength ahead of a possible interest rate increase in March. (more...)

Market breadth was negative with 779 advances against 1,190 declines. At 10.29 am, Sensex was trading at 28,284.64 down by 54.67 points or 0.19%, while Nifty was below 10 points or 0.11% at 8782.30. Humana is a leading Medicare Advantage plan provider, and executives say that they don't believe that they can achieve the same kind of health-care models on the exchanges that they achieve with health plans for seniors. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) chose to cancel 75 mineral production sharing agreements (MPSAs) nationwide, concerned about respective operations' adverse environmental impacts on watersheds covered by these.
