The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 1.1% to 5089.93 and the Standard & Poor's 500 Index gained 0.4% to 2173.02. And since Mr. Softie is also a Dow Jones Industrial Average stock, it helped the index gain 0.4%, maintaining its winning streak of nine consecutive closing highs. (more...)

Florida's unemployment rate remained unchanged in June, marking the second month in a row where the jobless rate was at 4.7 percent. The total number of jobs increased to 4,387,600. The unemployment rate is lower than the national rate of 4.9 percent as of June 2016. Manufacturing jobs had increased numbers as well. Defending Tesla's decision to deploy its partially autonomous system, in light of a May 7 crash that killed the driver, Musk said Autopilot is significantly safer than a person driving himself when used correctly. While the Nasdaq is up 2.75 points or 0.1 percent at 5,092.68, the Dow is down 33.08 points or 0.2 percent at 18,561.95 and the S&P 500 is down 1.11 points or 0.1 percent at 2,171.91. Tesla is under scrutiny after one of its cars driving in Autopilot mode crashed in May, killing the driver.
