Some of the world's biggest oil producers are trying to see if they can hike global crude oil prices by artificially throttling production. The contract reached $57.89, the highest since July 16, 2015. Oil has soared above $54 a barrel to its highest level in almost a year and a half. Opec would target an oil price of $60 a barrel as anything higher could encourage rival production, Ross added. (more...)

Sales of supermarkets' premium ranges in the United Kingdom have risen sharply, as shoppers spend 13 per cent more on top of the line ranges than previous year. Despite near flat prices overall, Tesco was the only one of the big four supermarkets to record sales growth according to Kantar, up 1.6%, a slowdown in pace from the 2.2% reported last month. The details in Monday article are based in large part on a lawsuit filed by a former Uber employee, Ward Spangenberg, who says he was sacked early this year for age discrimination. Uber denied Spangenberg's claims, and it said that they had systems in place to protect its users. American Express (AXP) said that its US -based regular full-time and part-time employees will be eligible for 20 weeks of paid parental leave. In addition to the 20 weeks of paid parental leave, birthing mothers will be eligible to receive paid, medically-necessary leave related to the birth of their child, which is generally, six to eight additional weeks.
