Death toll from Tennessee wildfires increases to 11

While the fire officially remains active , footage of the after-effects, captured by Tennessee National Guardsman Michael Donovan on Tuesday, showed some of the devastating damage the blaze has left in its wake. More than 14,000 residents and visitors in Gatlinburg were forced to evacuate and the city has been shuttered ever since. Eyewitnesses reported on Monday that massive walls of flames spread down the mountains into Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge with shocking speed. (more...)

Economists had expected an increase of 0.4%, compared with an originally reported gain of 0.3% in September. The report is jointly developed with Moody's Analytics. The personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index rose 0.2 per cent after a similar increase in September. That was the fastest 12-month advance since 2014. (more...)

Exelon has said it will continue steps toward shutting down the Clinton plant on June 1 if lawmakers don't approve the bill during their fall veto session, which is scheduled to end Thursday. Bob Rita of Blue Island, is a cap on power rates for all customers. The bill caps the increase at that level. Ameren, serving 1.2 million customers in central and southern IL, would pay 12 cents or less, on average, the company says. (more...)

Spending on private construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $885.9 billion, 0.2% below the revised September estimate of $887.4 billion. The next-largest segment, manufacturing, decreased 2.4 percent for the month and is down 3.1 percent year-to-date.
