The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec), which was established in 1960 to safeguard the interests of oil exporters, has been unable or unwilling to stem the recent fall in oil prices. Reuters reported this Friday that the price of oil had dropped once more to complete two weeks of decline. A draft plan that they were to discuss has already drawn criticism for its proposal that countries stop allowing asylum-seekers to pass across their borders without consulting with their neighbours. Southern California Edison, the plant's majority owner, on Thursday announced the settlement with Nuclear Electric Insurance Limited for the outages. The San Onofre nuclear plant indefinitely ceased its operations at the end of January 2012 when a leak occurred in one of its reactors, which, according to investigators, was caused by the vibrations in steam generators from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries of Japan. The deal came just before midnight and "secured significant gains", the union announced in a Facebook post at 12:03 am. Investors in VMware have been spooked by the deal, which analysts say could affect VMware's ability to retain top talent in the tight Silicon Valley labor market and could dilute demand for its shares. Caparo Industries employs 1,800 staff across 20 sites, with the vast majority of workers based at its Oldbury site. Steel firm Caparo is set to go into administration with the loss of around 1,800 jobs, according to sources. with an annual turnover of $1.5bn and 10,000 staff. Its founder was ennobled in 1996.
