OPEC, the 14-nation cartel that controls over a third of the world's oil , is trying to formalize a deal to cut production to between 32.5 million and 33 million barrels a day from record levels of 33.83 million barrels a day in October. West Texas Intermediate for December delivery slipped 1 cent to $45.80 a barrel at 12:28 p.m. on the New York Mercantile Exchange, after dropping 1.7 percent earlier. (more...)

So, the new rule would have doubled the threshold for salaried workers to be eligible for mandatory overtime pay from less than $24-thousand to more than $47 thousand. Thanksgiving weekend pulled in three million more shoppers this year, according to a National Retail Federation news release. Under a preliminary agreement reached in September in Algeria, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries would reduce its production to between 32.5 million and 33 million barrels per day, its first supply curb since 2008. According to the minister, Saudi Arabia expects the demand on its oil will increase in 2017. While it's hard to get at exactly why people look words up in dictionaries, online or on paper, it's clear that in contentious 2016, fear of "otherness" bruised the collective consciousness around the globe. As 2016 comes to a close, one word has been searched online significantly more than the rest: xenophobia . Earlier this month, the Oxford English Dictionary chose "post-truth" as its worldwide word of the year for 2016, which didn't sit well with Stephen Colbert. (more...)

Demonstrators fanned out Tuesday across North America to demand the US government halt or reroute the Dakota Access pipeline as the companies behind the project asked a federal court for permission to complete it. The company still needs permission to construct the pipeline adjacent to and underneath Lake Oahe — one of six reservoirs on the Missouri River.
