The impact of such an outcome could be even greater fiscal hardship for the United Kingdom, at least in the short term. Wednesday's figures outlined better-than-expected growth of 2.1 per cent this year, falling to just 1.4 per cent in 2017, and returning to 2.1 per cent in 2019. (more...)

Trade Minister Eduardo Ferreyros, who last week urged the world not to "box in" Trump on his campaign stance toward the TPP, said the US President-elect's comments on Monday had "dramatically changed the panorama". This does not mean that the worldwide trade negotiations will remain quiet. The United States is 60 percent of the combined GDP of that group and Japan less than 20 percent, so those conditions can not be met without USA participation. (more...)

Airbus A350-1000 stages maiden flight

Airbus says the A350-1000 will be 25 percent cheaper to operate than the competing Boeing 777-300ER, an older aircraft which weighs more but which has more seats in some layouts. According to Airbus, the A350-1000 has so far won 195 orders from 11 airlines including Asiana, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Etihad, Japan Airlines, Qatar Airways, United Airlines and Virgin Atlantic. Payments for transactions under all exempted categories can now be done only through the old Rs 500 notes. The govt however clarified that Rs 1000 notes would not be accepted anywhere after 24 November. The government demonetised Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes on November 8 but provided a number of exemptions where they could be used till November 24. The deadline for the payment of utilities - only water and electricity - has been extended till December 15. (more...)

Mumbai: The rupee crashed to almost 39-month low of 68.84, plummeting by by another 28 paise against the United States dollar in early trade on Thursday amid sustained foreign fund outflows and the greenback's surge in overseas markets. China's blue-chip CSI300 index .CSI300 advanced 0.5 percent to a near 11-month peak as the yuan touched its lowest in six years. "There are strong signs that the US economy is in good shape, and that bodes well for corporate earnings", said Heinz-Gerd Sonnenschein, an equity strategist at Deutsche Postbank AG in Bonn, Germany.
