Nigeria is the largest oil producer in Africa but sporadic supply disruptions have resulted in unplanned outages of up to 500,000 barrels per day, according to the U.S. Tim Evans of Citi Futures also noted light profit-taking ahead of the weekend, and said a stronger dollar after a better-than-expected United States retail sales report was "also encouraging some selling". IEA: Global oil oversupply to shrink "dramatically" this year

The global growth of oil demand in the first quarter of 2016 was revised upwards to 1.4 millions of barrels per day driven by gains from India, China and Russian Federation, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said Thursday. Outside of OPEC, the IEA said it now forecasts a bigger fall in production, of 800,000 mb/d, from its initial estimate of 700,000. The agency also found that India is surpassing China to become the main growth market for oil. (more...)

Gov. Jerry Brown on Monday issued a new executive order declaring that drought conditions persist and that the state must take permanent action to mitigate the likelihood of more frequent droughts. Jerry Brown ordered the mandatory statewide conservation last year, at the height of the driest four-year spell in history in California. The potentially faulty part has been linked to at least 11 deaths, including 10 in the USA, and more than 100 injuries.
