San Diego-based Qualcomm agreed to pay $110 a share in cash for NXP, the biggest supplier of chips used in the automotive industry, or 11 percent more than Wednesday's close, the companies said in a statement Thursday. Qualcomm is seen as the premium provider of SoCs (system-on-chip) for the smartphone industry, while its main competitor, MediaTek, has grown tremendously in the last couple of years, thanks to its low-priced chipsets it supplies to all handset makers around the world. WPP's like-for-like net sales growth coming at 2.8%, versus consensus of 2.7% is likely to be seen as reassuring, given recent weakness, it said, and the broker would not expect consensus to change organic forecasts. The study found that 81% of viewers were unable to correctly work out the total cost of a broadband contract, while just over a third (34%) recalled information about the price but only partial information or an incorrect figure for the broadband service or line rental costs.
