Alphabet Announces Third Quarter 2016 Results

Excluding certain expenses, Alphabet said it would have earned $9.06 a share , beating analysts' estimates of $8.62 a share, according to FactSet. Google's advertisement revenue grew by 18.1 percent in the third quarter to $19.82 billion, which accounted for its total profit to rise by 89.1 percent. (more...)

Tesla swung to a net profit of 14 cents a share in the quarter from a loss of $229.9 million, or $1.78 a share, a year earlier. Tesla , which went public in 2010, has had only one other profitable quarter: the first quarter of 2013. Up to Wednesday's close of $202.24, Tesla's shares had fallen 15.7 percent this year. Twitter plans to expand further syndication of the live services as well as ensure the same advertising is reaching users both logged in and logged out. Now, chief executive Jack Dorsey has revealed the micro-blogging site will spend between $10m (£8.1m) and $20m (£16.3m) on restructuring. A long-running employment tribunal case has ruled that two Uber drivers should be classified as employees of the company, rather than being self-employed. "Tens of thousands of people in London drive with Uber precisely because they want to be self-employed and their own boss". Will Deliveroo follow the Uber ruling? Iraq, the second-largest producer in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, threw an obstacle in OPEC's path toward a production-cuts deal this weekend when it balked at joining efforts to trim output. Analysis emailed from S&P Global Platts late Monday said it expected to see US crude oil inventory levels increase by 400,000 barrels from the previous week. (more...)

Customers must also be notified how their information is used and what other parties the Internet service provider shares it with. A bipartisan group of senators on the Judiciary Committee called on former Time Warner Cable CEO Robert Marcus to attend a December 7 hearing on the merger, which has raised anti-trust concerns and elicited a fair amount of criticism. Oil prices fell more than 1 per cent on Tuesday, with USA crude settling below $50 per barrel for the first time in a week ahead of data likely to show a build in domestic inventories. USA crude stockpiles fell by 553,000 barrels last week, the Energy Information Administration said, a result contrary to the 1.7 million-barrel build that analysts polled by Reuters had forecast.
