The state rate is above the national level of 5 percent. In September, 43,200 new part-time jobs replaced 53,000 full-time positions lost, causing a net loss of 9,800 jobs. "The September figures clearly demonstrate the country continues to transition", Employment Minister Michaelia Cash said in a statement. Average weekly earnings for employees in Great Britain, unadjusted for price inflation, increased by 2.3% both including and excluding bonuses compared with a year earlier. (more...)

The euro stood near a three-month low ahead of a European Central Bank meeting later on Thursday, while the Mexican peso rose to a six-week high after the conclusion of the final USA presidential debate before the November election.
