The nation's second largest oil-producing state pumped out 981,039 barrels per day during August, about 5 percent less than July. OPEC ministers agreed in principle in late September to cut oil production between one-half billion and 1 billion barrels per day in an effort to boost the persistently weak crude prices. (more...)

Silliman said Yahoo has given Verizon "preliminary briefings" on the hack, "but we're certainly not done with the amount of information we need to receive from them". Verizon agreed to buy Yahoo! in July for a little more than a tenth of what Microsoft had offered to buy the search company eight years ago. At a conference earlier this week, Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam denied rumors that Verizon could demand a significantly lower price tag for buying Yahoo as a result of the breach. (more...)

A Syrian military source said warplanes had struck several locations to the south and southwest of Aleppo but Syrian and Russian officials could not immediately be reached to comment on the market place attack. China said exports plunged more than predicted last month, disappointing markets after a recent upbeat reading on factory activity. The S&P 500 and the Dow Jones industrial average touched three-month lows on Thursday, dragged down by weak Chinese economic data and a potential USA interest rate hike by the end of the year. The South Korean electronics company said it is offering a $100 bill credit if the Note 7 is exchanged for another Samsung smartphone. In related news, beginning today (October 13) at 3PM Eastern, the expanded recall means customers have a new incentive to stick with a Samsung Galaxy phone when they return the Note 7. (more...)

The plan was to merge the two entities and form a digital advertising behemoth to take on Facebook and Google, but the Yahoo deal is yet to close. The yearly winter fuels outlook report from the U.S. are expected to be much colder than last winter east of the Rocky Mountains, with the Northeast and Midwest 17 percent colder and the South 18 percent colder.
